In a Science Friday podcast, Dr. Deb Chochra discussed her new infrastructure book. Focusing on what we boringly take for granted, her approach is what grabbed me. Because she digs into details that few of us know about, learning why we have water becomes a whole new story. During the podcast, she described the energy that moves water to us in the West and why gravity is crucial in the Northeast. Then, expressing still more, she went onward to sewage. Indicated by the title of her book, she talks about a lot more than water. I plan to read How Infrastructure Works: Inside the Systems That Shape Our World,
