It’s a little fruit that has a big message.
Singles Households
Even for a family of four, a whole pineapple can take days to eat. As a result, those of us that live alone, might not buy it.
Until now.
Called the Honeyglow, Del Monte developed a pineapple for a singles household.
They know that more of us are living alone. According to the U.S. Census, between 1940 and 2022, the proportion of singles households increased almost fourfold from 7.7% to 27.6%:

Using South Carolina as a prototype, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology compared estimated spending for single- and two-person households. Their bottom line was one is not half of two. For many of the following necessities, one-person households were spending more than half of their two-person counterpart:
Our Bottom Line: Singles Demography
If you are young or old, it is more likely that you are single. Men though are more likely to be single early in life while women tend to be single when they are older. Pew Research tells us that 51% of men under thirty are single. As for women, 65 and older, 49% are single:
Meanwhile, Our World in Data showed us who lives alone, among the singles named by Pew. And yes, it is the youngest and oldest demographic:
Returning to where we began, we checked the price of a mini-Honeyglow Del Monte pineapple. Whereas Walmart was selling regular pineapples for $3.48 apiece, the mini-Honeyglow was $4.49 from Fresh Direct (not sold at Walmart).
