I hope that you can discover some way to read today’s e-link. Gated at The New Yorker Magazine, the article, at great length, focuses on replication. Five years ago, I had to note that Cornell economist Brian Wansink “misreported” his research. As a result, among many retracted conclusions, we could no longer conclude that the size and color of a plate affect how much we eat. Now, in a voluminous article, we similarly learn that icons like Dan Ariely could not recreate crucial foundational data. For Wansink and Ariely, we were told what we wanted to believe…precisely when we needed to be most vigilant.
