With the 2023-2024 academic year starting, and my first economics class next week, I’ve been pondering my curriculum. Consequently, I’ve got the presidential election on my mind. Yes, there are debates and primaries, and indictments. But moving afar from the hoopla, I would like us to contemplate the timeless tension between democracy and capitalism. That took me to the Arthur Okun classic, Equality and Efficiency The Big Tradeoff. As will we, I recommend rereading it.
