This week, I recommend a book that I do not want to finish because listening to it is such a pleasure. In Theo of Golden, we meet Theo, an 86-year-old gentleman. Told very little about his life, we just know that he is visiting Golden for perhaps a year. While there, after seeing close to 100 for sale portraits hanging in a cafe, he decides to purchase each one. Then, one by one, through a personal letter, he schedules meetings with the individuals in the portraits. But the payoff for the reader comes when we learn about the people. Whether it’s Ellen the homeless person, Simone the musician, or Kendrick the cleaner, each has a story.
Slowly unfolding, the book is captivating and calming.
