Friday’s e-links (1/31)

In one book, someone kills a celebrity divorce lawyer by hitting him over the head with a very expensive bottle of wine. In the other, a woman, who hours earlier planned her own funeral, is murdered. Both, in the Detective Daniel Hawthorne series by Anthony Horowitz (he brought us Foyle’s War) are great reads if you like mysteries. I do. I just finished and very much enjoyed both books.

Friday’s e-links (1/17)

Again demonstrating that the statistics you select determine your conclusions, this Economist article focused on the income inequality debate. There are more questions about the degree of our economic inequality than many of us suspect. Yes, you can conclude that it is massive or minimal but do know the other side. I so appreciated the message.

This week I’ve been recommending the choice fatigue episode of The Happiness Lab podcast. As someone who dislikes buffets and the plastic baggy aisle in my food store, I especially appreciate hearing what choice overload can do to us.

Even if you have never seen or heard an NHL game (which I have not), John Scott’s story will totally grab your attention. About much more than hockey, this superb Radiolab podcast describes how a fan rebellion made Scott an all-star player.
