Hearing that this year’s El Niño is unusually strong, I wanted to learn more. So, for today’s e-link, I went to the BBC’s The Climate Question podcast. At this moment, the impact is a prediction. Explained by a professor from University College London, El Niño will bring droughts in regions that include Australia and northern India. But also, there will be heavy rains elsewhere like East Central Africa and Sri Lanka. Then, as the perfect complement, focusing on the Pacific Ocean and beyond, he told us why. Indeed, all he said let us grasp what we need to do. Knowing the past can help policymakers (and you and me) better plan for food security and extreme weather events.
