Every once in a while, (and sometimes each day) I listen to a great podcast, enjoy an article, or see a good video that I want to share with you.

Friday’s e-links 8/09/24
Since we haven’t focused on China for a while, I wanted to take a look. My first stop was the Adam Posen article, “The End of China’s Economic Miracle.” Unable to access the gated article, instead, I went to a PowerPoint that summarized his ideas. Seeing the emphasis on plunging consumer confidence, more state interference, and less foreign investment, we got a reason that China’s growth could slump. From there, I went back to an Axios podcast. It added one-child and the newly surging role of SOEs (state-owned enterprises). However, if you want just one briefer article to sum it all up, this is it. Its conclusion was thought-provoking:
“Mao Zedong once said that in an uncertain world, the Chinese must “’Dig tunnels deep, store grain everywhere and never seek hegemony.’ That sort of siege mentality is coming back.”
