How (Not) To Get a Birth-Friendly Nation
October 2, 2026Every once in a while, (and sometimes each day), I listen to a great podcast, enjoy an article, or see a good video that I want to share with you. These are my e-links.

I have four recommendations today: Two podcasts, an article, and a movie. All connect through feminism and two women. In the Daily podcast from the NY Times, we can ponder how the feminism of Gloria Steinem and Dolly Parton converge. Explained in the podcast, Steinem was a movement leader. Just mention feminism, and Gloria Steinem comes to mind because of the magazine she co-founded and the values she explicitly supported and fought for. Meanwhile, described in this article, Parton was undercover. A powerful lady who built a fortune and fame from nothing, Dolly Parton embodied all that Steinem sought for us. Then, in 9 to 5, we saw how Steinem and Parton could come together. Parton says she accepted the secretary’s role in the movie not because of feminism. Instead, she just plain thought it was very funny. And it was. I recently watched it again for a smile-filled break from work. Finally, if you really want some Dolly Parton immersion, this 9-part series was great:
