Reflecting my continuing quest to spend a bit of time with a video series I can look forward to daily, I wound up at The Gilded Age. So yes, we can call the series a soap opera because it has romance and decadent opulence. But also, it is about economic history. As soon as Episode 1, we hear about how a “robber baron” character ruthlessly competes. Then also, the actors are names we recognize. And Julian Fellowes, the creator of Downton Abbey, inspired and writes for The Gilded Age.
I just completed the first episode this evening. Perhaps not as special as Downton Abbey, it looks pretty good. However, I do wonder if I will stick around for three seasons. For now, I will watch tomorrow evening and recommend it to you.
