Today, I recommend the Bloomberg Odd Lots podcast on Saskatchewan’s lentil king. Starting with a small farm in Canada and ending with a multi-billion dollar global business, this episode is about trade. Also, through a business growth story, we learn how lentils replenish the soil with nitrogen and provide the world with protein. We see a supply chain with 46 different processing plants and countries that range from Turkey to Australia. In addition, remembering David Ricardo’s comparative advantage, we can understand why Canada is where we want to get our lentils. Most crucially, though, we see how trade can be invisible and yet so very necessary.
