Unbeknownst to me, farmers have had difficulty drying their cherry crop. When fans and blowers were ineffective, they wound up with rot/split problems. But then according to a blog that I discovered through Marginal Revolution, human ingenuity took over. In the video below and blog, you can see how a helicopter downwash solves the problem. It is rather fascinating (and a brief diversion from a sadly cataclysmic world).

I suggest subscribing to the NBER Digest. Free (though nothing is free) and emailed monthly, the Digest is composed of approximately seven summaries of new NBER (National Bureau of Economic Research) papers. As a record of recent research, it is a handy barometer of what eminent scholars are considering. I especially liked the May issue because of a study that connected patent laws to opera quality and quantity.
