The NY Times Daily podcast always is handy for a close-up look at an issue. However, providing insight about skyrocketing gasoline prices, in “The View of the War From a Florida Gas Station,” they did an especially good job. First, we meet a gas station owner. Not constrained by a large chain, he independently decides when to elevate a price. Then, we soon learn, his distributor determines what he has to charge. But also, he is concerned about his customers. Knowing most of them, he recognizes that a price hike is personal. And finally, from there, we meet the people that buy his gas and learn their tradeoffs.
By introducing a gas station owner, the Daily connects a far off Iran War to our local neighborhood.
