Every year, when scholars receive Nobel Prizes, so too do the recipients of the Ig Nobel awards. Presented by the Annals of Improbable Research, the Ig Nobels are quirky, funny, creative, and always improbable. Described in this BBC article, they include the impact of painting cows black and white and how swallowing Teflon could make you lose weight because the food slides through your body. In 2023, they looked at why paleontologists lick rocks.

As they explain, “after laughing, you start to think.”
