Like last week, again I recommend an Odd Lots podcast. But this time it’s “Vladislav Zubok on What the Cold War Actually Was.” Based on an interview between a Russian scholar and the Odd Lots journalists, the podcast explores the Cold War. Seemingly a power conflict between the U.S. and the Soviet Union, the Cold War was really about an economic choice between communism (or socialism) and capitalism. Looking through this economic lens, we learn that the Cold War sought to select the best way to “modernize the world.” As he gives us some answers, Dr. Zubok explains the Cold War’s origins, its content, its evolution. Also, by exploring the past, Dr. Zubok provides a better understanding of the current U.S. relationship with China.
