When factors of production are transferred from one function to another, the trade-off is rarely equal. Usually, to produce more of item A, a progressively larger quantity of factor resources used for producing item B have to be transferred. As the sacrifice of item B grows larger, the cost to produce item A, therefore, becomes increasingly high.
